Here are some tips for when driving in Western Australia:
Drive on the LEFT hand side of the road.
Look right, stay left.
You are not allowed to make a U-Turn unless a sign specifically says that you can.
If there is no sign saying that you can do something, always assume that you cannot.
Do not speed.
All speeds are monitored by video - the cops will not come after you and you will only get a ticket in the mail.
If the speed limit is 70 and you are going 78, you will get a $75 speeding ticket.
No "drink driving."
If there is no speed limit posted, you are supposed to know the "default" speed limit, depending on what type of area you are in.
Just because you can make a right on red in America doesn't mean you can make a left on red in Oz.
There are a lot of roundabouts.
A good driver taking the second exit out of a roundabout will put on its blinker.
Don't drive with body parts sticking out of the car. Dead or alive.
Pedestrians have the right of way, but it is an offence (or just offensive?) for a pedestrian to cross when the red man is shown.
Ticket machines have their own signs indicating the ticket machine. And if you're Asian, you may want to pose in front of it. Or capture a photo opp of the "no birds" sign on the door of a rental car. True Story. Saw both of these happen in real life.
Apparently rental cars used to be delivered by young women, which is an extra service cost in general and so the rental company's slogan, to save the customer money by not having this extra charge, is hence "no birds."
